British Charity Investigated over Hamas Links

An international humanitarian organization based in the United Kingdom, the Al-Khair Foundation, is facing an investigation by counterterrorism police and the charity regulator over alleged ties to Hamas.

The investigation focuses on the extent of the organization's ties to 45-year-old Mohammad Yousef Hasna of Istanbul, Turkey, who was arrested in the United Kingdom and faces extradition to New York, according to DPA.

US prosecutors have charged Hasna with conspiracy to divert money and supplies to Hamas under the guise of humanitarian aid. According to US Attorney Jamie McDonald, Hasna worked closely with the leadership of Hamas, which both the US and the United Kingdom consider a terrorist organization.

Counterterrorism police confirmed searches of two addresses in the London borough of Croydon and close cooperation with authorities. The Al-Khair Foundation, whose revenue exceeded £74m ($99.8m) in the fiscal year ending in July 2025, stated that it is "co-operating fully" with the investigation and had filed an incident report before the investigation began.

Representatives of the foundation emphasized that Hasna is not an employee of the foundation but works for one of its global partners.

The organization also reaffirmed its long-term commitment to helping people in need in Gaza by providing food, water, medicine and winter aid.

The oversight body's goal is to determine whether the foundation's administrators are exercising due diligence in supervising the use of funds and in selecting their partners to prevent misuse.
