Germany Faces Daily Hybrid Attacks, Says Dobrindt

Germany faces hybrid attacks from abroad every day, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said following a recent incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport, where a drone loaded with explosives was discovered. The investigation is ongoing, and German authorities have not ruled out the involvement of a foreign power.

“We're not at war, but we are the daily target of hybrid warfare”, Dobrindt told the newspaper Bild am Sonntag. According to him, foreign states are attempting to weaken Germany through espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks and covert operations designed to instill fear and destabilize society.

Following the incident, some German lawmakers suggested that Russia might be responsible. However, the Russian Embassy in Berlin rejected the accusations, calling them a “fabricated provocation” without evidence.

Meanwhile, the German military announced that on Thursday evening it spotted two drones over a military base in Mechernich, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The minister emphasized that Berlin is responding to new security threats by expanding research and development of technologies to protect against drones.
