New IRA Threatens “Civil War” over Migration

Leaders of the New Irish Republican Army (New IRA) are reportedly planning a campaign to force non-European migrants to leave Ireland and Northern Ireland, according to intelligence sources cited by the Mail on Sunday.

Security sources said the dissident republican group, which seeks a united Ireland, is attempting to exploit tensions over migration on both sides of the Irish border.

The report linked those tensions to allegations of harassment, sexual assault, stabbings and other violence involving migrants from Asia and Africa.

In a video posted on a far-right social media platform, an unidentified man threatened migrants with violence unless they left the country. He also referred to a 24-hour ultimatum and warned of a “civil war.”

The New IRA was formed in 2012 following a merger involving the Real IRA, which was established in 1997 by dissidents who split from the Provisional IRA, and Republican Action Against Drugs.

A security source cited in the report said the organization had carried out attacks against the Police Service of Northern Ireland this year and was pursuing two objectives: the departure of non-European migrants and the incorporation of Northern Ireland into a united Ireland.
