Ukraine Intensifies Deep Strikes on Russia
In recent months, Ukraine has significantly stepped up its drone and missile attacks deep into Russian territory. However, despite the growing number of strikes, analysts say that only a small fraction of Ukrainian weapons are getting past Russian air defenses, according to the Unian news agency.
According to analyst Jack Watling of the British think tank RUSI, approximately 5%–9% of Ukrainian missiles launched get past Russian air defenses. Kyiv must therefore deploy large numbers of drones in some operations to overwhelm Russian defenses and allow the missiles to hit their targets.
Ukrainian attacks are focused on four main areas. Kyiv is targeting oil infrastructure to limit Russia’s revenue and fuel supplies, as well as defense industry facilities, air defense systems and radars.
Ukraine has also struck warehouses belonging to Wildberries, a company Kyiv says is helping to supply the Russian military. Moscow denies this.
