Nearly One in Seven Germans Considering Emigration

Nearly one in seven Germans is considering leaving the country. According to a new survey by the Insa agency, 14% of respondents plan to emigrate within the next five years, while 68% have no plans to leave, reports the European Conservative.

The trend is most pronounced among younger Germans. Among those aged 18–29, 24% plan to leave the country, rising to 27% among 30–39-year-olds. Interest in emigration declines with age, with just 4% of those over 70 planning to leave.

Differences are also apparent across political affiliations. Around one-fifth of Alternative for Germany (AfD) voters said they plan to leave the country within the next five years, followed by 18% of The Left voters and 15% of Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance voters.

The poll also shows the AfD maintaining a strong position. If parliamentary elections were held now, the party would finish first with 28% support, according to Insa. The Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) would receive 21%, the Greens 13.5% and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) 12%.

In a hypothetical direct election for chancellor, AfD leader Alice Weidel would receive 29% of the vote, compared with 17% for Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
