Kushner Heads to Israel for Gaza Disarmament Talks

Jared Kushner, a senior adviser and son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, is expected to travel to Israel and Egypt next week for talks on the next steps in implementing the Gaza peace plan.

Washington and Israel agree on the goal of disarming Hamas, but the Israeli government has reservations about how the agreement should be implemented.

Kushner is expected to try to advance Trump’s 20-point Gaza peace plan, first announced in late 2025. According to Axios, he will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials before traveling to Cairo for further talks.

In late July, Trump announced that Hamas had agreed to the complete disarmament of itself and other armed groups in Gaza. Under the plan, Israeli forces would withdraw as the disarmament process is completed, while an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian police force would assume responsibility for security.

Netanyahu, however, has publicly rejected the proposed sequencing, insisting that Israel will not withdraw its forces until Hamas has been fully disarmed. Hamas, meanwhile, maintains that Israel must first fulfill its commitments, including halting attacks and withdrawing its troops.
