US Presses EU to Ease Corporate Sustainability Rules

The United States urged the European Union on Friday to ease its sustainability and corporate responsibility rules, which also impose obligations on large US companies.

US Ambassador to the EU Andrew Puzder said the bloc should honor commitments made during trade talks in Turnberry in July 2025 to address non-tariff barriers. He argued that EU rules governing the environmental and social impacts of corporate supply chains placed undue restrictions on transatlantic trade.

The EU requires large companies operating in its market to report on their environmental and social impacts, including working conditions across their supply chains. Washington is also pushing for changes to the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
