Ukraine Hits Samara Industrial Site
Ukraine launched an attack on industrial infrastructure in Russia's Samara region on Saturday. Ivan Noskov, the head of the regional capital, said that Russian air defenses repelled a "massive attack", though industrial facilities nevertheless sustained localized damage.
Russian authorities did not immediately release further details about the targeted facilities or the extent of the damage.
The Samara region has faced Ukrainian attacks on its energy infrastructure in the past. Kyiv has, for example, targeted the oil refinery in Syzran, on the Volga River.
Attacks on Russian refineries and other energy facilities are part of a broader Ukrainian campaign aimed, according to available information, at increasing pressure on Moscow and forcing it to end the war, which has lasted more than four years. It is not yet clear whether Saturday's attack specifically targeted the energy sector.
