Trump Gets His Own Dollar Coin

The US Mint will begin selling commemorative $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump on 2 September, issued to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, according to The Independent.

Collectors, however, will pay a significant premium. A roll of 25 coins will cost $61, or $2.44 each, while a pack of 100 coins will cost $154.50. The coins remain legal tender and feature Trump's portrait on one side and the presidential seal on the other.

The Mint also plans to issue a 24-karat gold version, though it has not yet disclosed the price or release date. According to an earlier court filing, only 47 coins are to be minted, each containing gold worth approximately $90,000.

Trump's likeness on the coins has also sparked legal and political disputes. Several provisions of US law restrict the depiction of living people on currency. The administration, however, maintains that the commemorative coins comply with the law.
