Floods in Spain Leave Two Dead, Infants Injured

Floods and landslides caused by torrential rain killed two elderly women and injured two infants in a rural area of northwestern Spain. Seven regions declared a heightened state of alert on Sunday due to storms and heavy rain.

Emergency services in the region of Castile and León confirmed the deaths of the two women, aged approximately 60 and 80, following the disaster, which struck the village of Manzanedo de Valdueza, near Pontevedra, on Saturday evening. Two infants suffered bruises.

On Sunday, Spain's Civil Protection Agency issued a warning about storms and heavy rain in seven regions of central and northern Spain.

The flood warnings follow weeks of record-high temperatures that fueled a series of devastating wildfires.
