Police Accidentally Expose Emails of Al Fayed Abuse Victims

London's Metropolitan Police has apologized for exposing the email addresses of 143 people who reported sexual abuse by the late billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed. The news was reported by Euronews.

The breach occurred as a result of human error while sending a monthly update to the victims, when the recipients' email addresses were not hidden from each other. Representatives of the victims described the incident as appalling. The police said they identified the issue quickly, contacted the affected individuals, are reviewing their procedures and have reported the case to the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

Mohamed Al Fayed, former owner of Harrods and the Ritz Hotel in Paris and father of Dodi Al Fayed, died in 2023. After his death, hundreds of women accused him of rape, assault and human trafficking.

Earlier this month, the British Home Office formally recognized at least five of his victims as victims of modern slavery.

Police are continuing to investigate Al Fayed's actions, as well as the individuals who may have assisted him. Although six people have been interviewed as part of the investigation so far, no one has been arrested.
