Burnham Defends Response to Trump Aide Impostor
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham denies feeling embarrassed after exchanging messages with a person posing as Susie Wiles, the White House chief of staff.
According to Burnham, the communication was minimal and contained nothing of substance. He said he recognized the suspicious contact quickly and reported it to the appropriate authorities. “I did everything right”, he told reporters during a visit to Wolverhampton.
The incident raised such concerns among British officials that the embassy in Washington contacted the White House. Burnham did not speak with the impostor by phone. It is not yet known exactly when they exchanged messages or what they contained.
The case has also raised new questions about national security. British officials were concerned that someone might have hacked into Wiles’s phone. The White House, however, maintains that the incident was not related to a breach of her device.
Other British politicians, including David Cameron, Ben Wallace and Priti Patel, have faced similar scams in the past.
