Woman, 22, Killed in Shooting at Aarau Party
A 22-year-old woman was killed and five other people were injured, some seriously, in a shooting at a rave party in the Swiss city of Aarau. According to the daily newspaper Blick, the incident took place on Sunday at approximately 2:30 a.m. at a techno party held at an indoor racetrack, where organizers had expected about 3,500 attendees.
According to police, all of the victims are Swiss residents in their 20s.
One witness reported hearing several gunshots and then attempting, unsuccessfully, to resuscitate a woman who had been shot. She died of her injuries at the scene.
Police launched an extensive manhunt, cordoned off parts of the city and called on the public to provide photographs or other evidence related to the incident. An army helicopter also monitored the situation from the air.
Switzerland is among the European countries with a high rate of gun ownership, but violent shootings are relatively rare there.
