Birmingham City Council has asked the High Court to issue an injunction against members of the anti-immigration group Raise the Colours. As reported by the BBC, the goal is to prevent the unauthorized display of European Union flags and St. George's Crosses on streetlight poles.

According to Councilor Jane Baston, the city is acting on the basis of evidence, in the interest of public safety, lawful road management and community cohesion.

The actions of the group, led by Ryan Bridge, have sparked heated clashes in the suburbs with residents and opposition activists, who claim that displaying these symbols promotes far-right and racist sentiments. The organizers, on the other hand, describe it as an expression of patriotism and pride.

Similar legal action was already taken in June by Oxfordshire County Council, where Bridge and other activists agreed to stop placing flags along highways.
