Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has proposed renaming Nashville International Airport after the legendary country singer Dolly Parton, who died at the age of 80. The proposal was developed in collaboration with airport management and the artist's team as a tribute to her musical and personal legacy. It will be officially discussed on 17 September.

According to The Guardian, the idea of renaming the airport has also been supported by Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell and a public petition signed by more than 150,000 people.

If the airport authority approves the change, it will mark the second significant renaming of an American airport in recent months, after Palm Beach International Airport was renamed in honor of President Donald Trump earlier this year.

The city is also preparing other tributes to commemorate the iconic singer.
