A NATO official warned on Sunday that Russia is significantly escalating its hybrid activities in Europe, as well as its attacks on Ukraine. At the same time, however, he emphasized that the alliance currently sees no immediate threat of a direct military attack on its members.

According to him, the alliance remains vigilant, continues to support Ukraine and ensures the security of its one billion citizens.

The warning comes at a time of heightened tensions. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Saturday that both Poland and NATO must be prepared for various scenarios, including possible Russian provocations.

During his visit on Tuesday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe mentioned to partners the risk of a Russian operation against a NATO member. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, meanwhile, announced that the perpetrators behind the recent attempted drone attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport would soon be identified.

Russia has long rejected any accusations of sabotage or planning attacks in Europe, dismissing them as fear-mongering.
