Swiss Police Arrest Suspect After Deadly Rave Shooting

Swiss authorities have arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with a weekend attack at a dance event. A 22-year-old Italian woman was killed, and five other people were injured.

The incident took place early Sunday morning at an indoor racetrack. Police subsequently launched a large-scale manhunt and, shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Monday, detained a Swiss citizen suspected of committing the crime.

Investigators are determining the exact sequence of events, the background, and a possible motive. According to findings so far, the perpetrator likely acted alone.

Police in the canton of Aargau are examining three possible explanations. It could have been a mass shooting, a terrorist act, or an attack with a criminal motive that is as yet unknown.

Shell casings of two different calibers were found at the scene. Investigators are therefore examining whether the attacker used two weapons, a handgun and a larger firearm, likely an assault rifle.
