Polish prosecutors have launched an investigation into a fire at a WB Electronics plant in Skarzysko-Kamienna, examining possible terrorism and involvement by a foreign intelligence service.

The fire broke out shortly after midnight and was brought under control by firefighters. No one was injured, according to DPA.

Officers from Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) also arrived at the scene. Authorities have not confirmed that the fire was an act of sabotage. According to Polish broadcaster RMF FM, however, surveillance cameras showed a man who is thought to have started the fire in one of the plant’s rooms. He was wearing a balaclava and carrying a backpack, and reportedly also triggered the alarm system.

WB Electronics is Poland’s largest privately owned defense company and supplies technology to the Polish military. The plant in Skarzysko-Kamienna manufactures key components for drones.

The Polish government has accused Russian and Belarusian intelligence services of sending agents into the country to carry out acts of sabotage.
