According to the latest SWG poll, the Italian right wing movement Futuro Nazionale, founded in February by former army general Roberto Vannacci, has become the fourth most popular political force in the country.

With 7.5% of the vote, it has surpassed the coalition party Forza Italia, which has 7.1%, as well as the League, the party Vannacci left, which has 5.7% support. The movement is based primarily on strong opposition to mass migration and the defense of traditional values.

The rapid rise of Futuro Nazionale poses a challenge for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni ahead of next year’s elections. Although her party, Brothers of Italy, remains the strongest political force in the country with 26.8% support, the entire governing coalition is currently trailing slightly behind the center left bloc led by the Democratic Party.

For now, leaders of the governing coalition have reacted lukewarmly to the possibility that Futuro Nazionale might join their coalition in the future.
