Russia Wants to Develop Financial Ties with the US
Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said dialogue between Russia and the US should focus on finding common ground on economic issues, which could make political disagreements easier to resolve.
Siluanov met US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Monday at the G20 finance leaders’ conference in North Carolina.
According to Interfax, Siluanov said the two countries agreed there were grounds for developing financial ties despite the difficulties in their relationship. He said people in the financial world could sometimes find common understanding more quickly than politicians and called for continued dialogue in areas of mutual interest.
The US side, however, has taken a different stance. Reuters reported that a source familiar with the meeting said Bessent made clear to Siluanov that no economic relief for Russia or agreements on other issues were possible until the war in Ukraine ends.
