Explosion and Suspicious Device Shut Augsburg Station
German police found a suspicious device following an explosion near the main train station in Augsburg. Security forces therefore initially cordoned off the station completely and suspended train service.
The explosion occurred on Bahnhofstraße near the station at around 3:15 a.m. Two Ukrainian citizens, aged 17 and 18, sustained minor injuries. Both suffered acoustic trauma. The shock wave also damaged windows in nearby buildings.
The cause and circumstances of the incident are not yet known. Bomb disposal experts from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office are investigating the suspicious device.
The police operation caused significant disruptions to road traffic and public transportation in Augsburg. Later, only platform one and the station building remained closed, while police reopened the other tracks. Passengers can enter the station through the north and south entrances.
