Slovenian Parliament Lifts Former PM's Immunity

The Slovenian parliament has cleared the way for criminal proceedings against former Prime Minister Robert Golob over allegations that he improperly interfered in police personnel decisions, according to Politico.

All 75 lawmakers present, including Golob himself, voted against granting him parliamentary immunity. Golob had previously said he did not intend to invoke immunity and wanted the case resolved as quickly as possible.

The allegations were made by his former interior minister, Tatjana Bobnar, who claims Golob pressured her to make personnel changes within the police.

Bobnar resigned in December 2022 and subsequently reported the matter to prosecutors and the anti-corruption commission. Golob denies any wrongdoing.

The Ljubljana District Court opened a judicial investigation in October 2025. After Golob was elected to parliament this year, prosecutors had to ask parliament to lift his immunity before proceedings could continue.
