Trump Proposes Renaming Hormuz After Himself

US President Donald Trump has proposed renaming the Strait of Hormuz the Trump Strait.

“Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT???”, Trump wrote on Truth Social.

It is unclear how Trump could implement such a change, since the strait is nowhere near US territory.

Trump previously declared that he was renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America and last week signed an executive order changing the US name for Lake Ontario to Lake America.

The Strait of Hormuz is a central point of contention in the war against Iran. Before the conflict began in late February, one-fifth of the world’s oil trade passed through the waterway.

The Trump administration says Iran has lost control of the strait, but shipping traffic remains far below pre-war levels and has fallen further in recent days, according to CNBC.
