Anthropic Still a Risk, Pentagon Official Says

The US Department of Defense (DoD) and the defense industry continue to view Anthropic as a risk, despite signs of improving relations between the artificial intelligence company and President Donald Trump's administration.

Emil Michael, the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, acknowledged this on X. He made the remarks a day after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that Anthropic was once again "on the right side" and that the government trusted the company.

The dispute between the Pentagon and Anthropic has also gone to court. On 27 August, a federal judge ruled in favor of the company, finding that the DoD had unlawfully punished it for criticizing the government, and describing the Pentagon's decision as illegal and baseless.

The DoD did not respond to a request from Reuters for comment on the current situation.
