Iran Strikes US Base in Kuwait amid Wedding Strike Toll
Iran launched a missile and drone attack on a US base in Kuwait overnight. The Kuwaiti military said its air defense system intercepted the attack. This marked a further escalation of the conflict following extensive US airstrikes on the Iranian coast.
Tehran claims four people were killed and nearly 70 injured in one of the US attacks in the Sirik area, after a house where a wedding was taking place was struck. The victims were buried on Thursday. The US military said it was verifying the reports, while emphasizing that it does not intentionally target civilians.
According to Washington, the US struck military targets on Tuesday in retaliation for Iranian attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran subsequently struck US bases in several countries in the region.
The new escalation has heightened tensions in oil markets. The price of Brent crude exceeded $96 per barrel on Thursday. However, no further large-scale strikes were reported during the day following the latest attacks.
