Trump Wants Europe to Repay Ukraine Aid

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he would seek payment from European countries for military aid and ammunition previously provided by the United States to Ukraine. He also appeared to signal a halt in US ammunition sales to allies.

In a social media post, Trump wrote that the US was retaining ammunition for its own needs and building up its stockpiles. He indicated, however, that sales to allies would resume soon.

The president claimed that Ukraine and NATO had received hundreds of billions of dollars in aid free of charge that Europe could have paid for. According to Trump, Washington would now seek reimbursement from European countries.

The remarks come amid concerns over US ammunition stockpiles. Reuters reported last month that the US Army had used up much of its stockpile of highly accurate long-range missiles during the war with Iran, raising concerns about the military’s readiness for future conflicts.
