Russian Drone Strikes SBU Headquarters in Kyiv

On Friday, a Russian drone struck the headquarters of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) on Volodymyrska Street in downtown Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the drone was aimed directly at the office of the SBU chief.

The building is located across from St Sophia Cathedral, one of the most significant landmarks in the Ukrainian capital.

According to the mayor of Kyiv, five people were injured in the attack, and thick black smoke rose from the site after the strike. All emergency services are on the scene, Zelensky said.

After speaking with acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad, the president ordered the preparation of a “appropriate, tangible response” against Russia.

According to Zelensky, the response should, if possible, be similar to the Russian attack. The Ukrainian military is also expected to take part in the retaliation.
