Zelensky: Russia Hits Airports Ahead of US Envoys' Visit

Russia attacked Ukrainian airports in the capital, Kyiv, and the nearby city of Boryspil ahead of a visit by US envoys, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday.

Ukrainian airspace has been closed since the Russian invasion in February 2022. Zelensky acknowledged that the possibility of US peace negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner using an airplane for their expected visit to Kyiv on Sunday had also been discussed.

"Clearly, these Russian strikes on the airports are a reaction to the discussions and preparations for the possibility of the US side using an aircraft to travel to Ukraine and land at Kyiv Airport or Boryspil Airport", the Ukrainian president said.
