Bild: Germany Plans Shield After Drone Attack

Germany is preparing a comprehensive package of measures to strengthen protection against drone attacks, cyberattacks, and other forms of Russian sabotage, the German tabloid Bild reported on Sunday. The report comes in response to last month's failed drone attack on an airport.

According to the report, which cited the German interior ministry, police mobile capabilities for defending against drones are to be expanded, with rapid-deployment units stationed in cities to protect the airspace above key transportation hubs and government districts.

At the same time, companies operating critical infrastructure, such as energy utilities and weapons manufacturers, are to be granted legal authority not only to detect drones but also to intervene against them directly.

The government also wants to create a nationwide “cyberdome”, a network of digital sensors designed to detect and intercept attempted cyberattacks.

It also plans to expand the use of technologies supported by artificial intelligence, biometric facial recognition, and video surveillance, for example at train stations, with the goal of identifying suspects preparing acts of sabotage.

The German interior ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
