Zelensky Hopes for Resumption of US-Russia Talks

US envoy Steve Witkoff said Sunday that he felt positive about the peace talks in both Moscow and Kyiv, adding that the United States hopes to find a diplomatic solution to the war.

“We've had a very meaningful discussion, substantive, important, and we are very encouraged”, Witkoff stated after three hours of talks with Zelensky and his team. According to him, the talks will continue as long as necessary.

Witkoff had traveled from Moscow, where on Saturday, together with President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, he held three hours of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kushner expressed hope that this first visit by US envoys to Kyiv would lead to "new ways to advance forward" in an effort to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. “I think we've learned a lot from the trip”, he noted.

The substantive and constructive nature of the talks was also confirmed by Zelensky himself and Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov.

The Ukrainian president told reporters that they discussed security and economic guarantees for Ukraine, as well as deliveries of air defense missiles and an aid package for the coming winter.

He also expressed hope that trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States would resume soon.
