German Police Foil Power Grid Bomb Plot

Investigators discovered and defused additional explosive devices following an attempted sabotage of the power grid in Upper Lusatia, the Dresden Public Prosecutor’s Office and Saxon State Criminal Police Office said on Monday.

A total of 21 homemade explosive devices were found targeting power infrastructure in Saxony. An extensive police operation at the site lasted from Friday to Sunday.

All the devices were located near a high-voltage power line south of the Graustein substation, close to the village of Schleife in the Görlitz district.

Investigators believe the devices were intended to cause extensive damage to the energy infrastructure by triggering short circuits. Very similar acts of sabotage have also occurred in the federal states of Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia.

In all reported cases, the electricity supply remained uninterrupted.
