Russia Resumes Kyiv Strikes After US Peace Envoys Leave

Russia resumed attacks on Kyiv early Tuesday, shortly after the departure of US peace envoys. Six people were injured in ballistic missile strikes, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

People were trapped in a residential building and fires broke out across the city. Falling debris damaged a five-story apartment building and a three-story residential block. The Kyiv Military Administration urged residents to seek shelter.

As explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital, neighboring Poland began military aviation operations to protect its airspace against possible incursions.

The strikes came after US peace envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday and then left the country. They had arrived from talks in Moscow, after which the Kremlin said it did not rule out the resumption of trilateral negotiations.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones damaged civilian infrastructure in Saratov, Russia, injuring people. The area is home to a large Rosneft oil refinery as well as other industrial and military facilities.
