Houthi Attacks Halt Operations at Saudi Energy Sites

Operations at some energy facilities in Saudi Arabia were halted on Tuesday following attacks by Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis. At least 73 people were injured in strikes on several southern cities, according to the Saudi-led coalition.

Fires broke out at the affected sites as emergency teams worked to contain the blazes and assess the damage. The Energy Ministry said authorities would take measures to ensure the safety of workers and facilities and resume operations according to approved plans.

The Saudi-led coalition reported casualties following attacks on Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. It described the latest escalation as dangerous and vowed a firm response. Spokesperson Turki al-Malki said the coalition would take all necessary measures to deter the Houthis.

The Houthis control the most populous parts of Yemen and much of the north. They have been attacking Saudi Arabia since declaring a naval blockade against Riyadh in July and have also targeted Saudi vessels in the Red Sea.

The Financial Times reported on Monday that the attacks hit Saudi Aramco’s oil facilities in Jazan. Reuters was unable to independently verify the report and Aramco did not comment.
