Google to Invest €13bn in Finnish AI Infrastructure
Google plans to invest at least €13bn ($15.1bn) in artificial intelligence infrastructure in Finland over the next two years, its largest investment in Europe to date.
The project includes three new data centers in the north of the country, modernization of the power grid and investments in clean energy and battery storage. Google has also signed a 22-year agreement with Fortum, under which it can purchase up to half the output of the Loviisa nuclear power plant.
This is Google's first nuclear energy agreement outside the US. Finland is an attractive location for data centers due to its stable power grid, nuclear energy and cold climate, which can reduce server cooling costs.
The investment, planned for 2027 and 2028, is expected to contribute approximately €3.6bn ($4.2bn) to Finland's GDP during construction.
Google said the projects would support approximately 7,000 jobs a year once fully operational.
