German Military Tests 30 AI Tools

The German military is evaluating 30 artificial intelligence tools to speed up decision-making directly on the battlefield. Vice Admiral Thomas Daum, chief of the Military Cyber Command, told Handelsblatt that the first prototype could be available in the second quarter of 2027, with full implementation expected in 2028.

The war in Ukraine has shown that drones and satellites generate enormous amounts of data that military personnel cannot process quickly enough.

The vast majority of the software being tested comes from German developers, although French company ChapsVision is also on the shortlist. Daum also confirmed the exclusion of the best-known US system, Palantir’s Maven Smart System, which is currently used by both US and NATO headquarters.

The rejection of US technology stems from concerns over data sovereignty and dependence on the United States. European allies’ reservations about Palantir have also intensified following political statements by President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly questioned Washington’s commitments within NATO.
