Putin Blames Western “Systemic Failures” for AfD Success

Russian President Vladimir Putin attributed recent political developments in Europe to “systemic failures” that he said were committed by Western globalists. He made the remarks following the victory of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Putin said he would not comment on the outcome of Sunday's election itself. However, he linked broader developments on the continent to the policies of Western elites, saying the events Europe is experiencing today are the result of long-standing problems and misguided decisions by the so-called West.

He described the actions of Western globalists as problematic in several areas, specifically politics, security and the economy. He made the remarks to reporters on the first day of his visit to India.

According to Reuters, however, Putin did not provide further details on which specific decisions by Western elites he considers to be systemic errors.
