Xi Jinping Visits India for First Time in Seven Years

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi for the BRICS summit and talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is his first visit to India in seven years, and the two Asian powers have recently been cautiously trying to restore relations damaged by the bloody border conflict in the Himalayas in 2020.

Xi was welcomed at the airport with a red carpet and traditional Indian dances. He is scheduled to meet with Modi on Saturday evening, marking their third meeting in the past three years.

Beijing has said it intends to view relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective and to resolve contentious issues in a way that allows both countries to act as good neighbors and partners.

The BRICS summit is taking place amid growing geopolitical tensions. The war between Russia and Ukraine, along with the conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran, is disrupting global trade, energy and transportation.
