Xi Calls on BRICS to Help End Middle East War

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the BRICS countries to become more actively involved in efforts to end the conflict in the Middle East. In a speech at the summit in New Delhi, he said the bloc should act as a peacemaker and that China is prepared to cooperate with other members in this area.

Xi said the continuation of the war is not in the common interest of the international community. He also described BRICS as a leading force of the Global South and an example of cooperation between emerging and developing countries, and emphasized the need for greater self-sufficiency and innovation-driven development.

BRICS comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

Together, the group accounts for more than 40% of the world's population and nearly a quarter of the global economy. China is set to assume the bloc's presidency next year and host its 19th summit.
