Ukraine Plans Talks with Russia and US in October

Kyiv is considering the possibility that negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the United States to end the war, now in its fifth year, could resume as early as October. “We are getting ready. In October”, said Kyrylo Budanov, head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office.

Diplomatic activity has intensified following trips by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv. Zelensky subsequently spoke of “very decent, worthwhile ideas” and suggested that the next meeting could be hosted by Turkey, the United Arab Emirates or Switzerland.

However, it remains unclear whether the talks will actually take place. The Kremlin has not ruled out resuming them, but according to its spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, it is too early to determine a location or date. Russia and Ukraine also remain divided on fundamental issues, particularly the fate of the part of Donbas that Moscow considers its own territory.
