Paris Celebrates the Power of Celine Dion

On Saturday, after a six-year hiatus, Celine Dion made an emotional return to the stage, overcoming health issues to thrill fans at the first of a series of concerts in Paris.

“I’m standing on stage in this city I love so much thanks to your support and your love”, she told the crowd. “The path was rocky, the road was longer than planned but I held on.”

In 2022, the star announced that she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle spasms and prevents her from performing.

Dion occasionally appeared overwhelmed; during her opening number, she broke down in tears and handed the microphone to an audience member to help her cross the stage bridge.

“I promised I wouldn’t cry - but they’re tears of joy”, she said, speaking mostly in French throughout the interview.
