Amazon Suspends 21 Aircraft After Fatal Crash

Amazon has suspended operations with cargo carrier 21 Air after one of its planes crashed at Miami International Airport last weekend, killing five people.

Flight 7598 was operated by the carrier for the Amazon Air logistics network. The aircraft overran the runway while landing and struck several vehicles on the ground. It was a 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 freighter that had served several airlines as a passenger jet between 1994 and 2015.

Following the crash, Amazon supported the investigation and reviewed the circumstances surrounding the incident. The company said it would continue to assist investigators and those affected.

Data from the flight recorder showed that the pilots considered aborting the landing after the aircraft touched down. About a minute before touchdown, one of them also warned that the plane was flying “too fast”.

The aircraft was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was on its third flight of the day. It had previously flown from Cincinnati to Miami and then from Miami to San Juan.

21 Air pledged to cooperate with the investigation and expressed confidence in its safety rules, procedures and training.
