Russian Drone Recovered in Polish Waters

The Polish Navy recovered an object from the Baltic Sea off the coast of the village of Rusinowo in northern Poland, which the Polish Ministry of Defense identified as a Russian military drone. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that a preliminary inspection confirmed the origin of the unmanned aerial vehicle.

According to a spokesperson for the Armed Forces Operational Command, it is most likely a Gerbera model, a low-cost, long-range drone made of plywood and foam that is often used as a decoy to draw in air defenses, but it can also carry an explosive payload.

The incident occurred amid escalating tensions on NATO’s eastern flank, where repeated airspace violations are heightening fears that the Alliance could be drawn into a conflict. In this context, Prime Minister Donald Tusk has repeatedly warned of further Russian provocations.

Moreover, the discovery in the Baltic Sea came just one day after another Russian drone struck a passenger train right near the Ukrainian-Polish border. The Russian Embassy in Warsaw has not yet commented on the incident.
