Widow’s Bay Takes Record 14 Emmys

The horror comedy Widow's Bay, about a cursed town in New England, dominated this year's Emmy Awards with a record 14 statuettes, including the award for Best Comedy Series. In the Best Drama Series category, the hospital emergency room drama The Pitt took home the award once again.

Apple TV’s comedy series Widow’s Bay beat out the final season of the previous winner, Hacks, on Monday night to win the award for best comedy.

Jean Smart, star of Hacks, won her fifth Emmy Award for her portrayal of the tenacious stand-up comedian Deborah Vancova, and Matthew Rhys became the first person to win two awards for leading acting roles at the same ceremony, including one for his role as the mayor of a small town in the series Widow’s Bay.

With this win, Smart became the first actress to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for every season of the show.
