Russian Drone Strikes Kyiv Gas Station

A gas station in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv was struck by a drone on Tuesday morning, according to the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko. The incident occurred just one day after US President Donald Trump declared that Ukraine and Russia had agreed not to attack each other’s energy infrastructure.

One person was injured in Tuesday’s attack. According to Klitschko, storage facilities in another part of Kyiv were also hit, he added on Telegram. A Reuters witness reported an explosion in the city.

According to the agency, Moscow recently began attacking gas stations in Kyiv. Ukrainian authorities believe that approximately 300 gas stations have been hit in recent months, mainly in or near Ukrainian frontline areas.

A missile strike from Kyiv, in turn, damaged, among other facilities in Russia, an Ozon warehouse in the port city of Taganrog in the south of the country, Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar announced on Telegram.

A separate drone attack struck an industrial facility in the Samara region on the Volga River, according to a statement by local Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev on Telegram. He did not confirm the name of the targeted facility, but Reuters notes that there are several large oil refineries in the area.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Monday that Kyiv is prepared to support the US proposal for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine regarding energy targets only if Washington guarantees that Moscow is truly prepared to end the war against Ukraine.
