Russian Oligarch Partially Funded Trump Jr.’s Wedding

Donald Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina have confirmed that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev partially financed their May wedding celebrations in the Bahamas. According to ProPublica, he spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the event.

Kremlev reportedly paid for the rental of one of the two private islands where the reception was held and guests stayed, as well as a large fireworks display. Approximately 50 people attended the three-day celebration; the wedding ceremony itself was limited to just 18 guests. The Russian businessman was not present at the ceremony, but he did attend the after-party.

The couple described him as a close friend and his contribution as an exceptionally generous wedding gift. They denied any political motives and emphasized that Trump Jr. has no business relationship with him.

Kremlev heads the International Boxing Association, which is supported by Russia’s Gazprom. Shortly before the celebration, he accompanied Vladimir Putin to China, and a month earlier, he received the Order of Friendship from him. Ukraine has imposed sanctions on him due to his ties to the Kremlin and Russian security services.

Democrat Robert Garcia is demanding an explanation of what the oligarch might have received in exchange for the gift. Ethics experts are warning of potential influence peddling involving the president’s family. Donald Trump did not attend the wedding, citing the war with Iran.
