UN Warns Congo Ebola Outbreak Is Far from over

Measures to combat the spread of Ebola in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo are beginning to yield results, but the outbreak remains deadly and widespread. It could take several months to bring it under control, United Nations officials warned.

UN Special Coordinator for Ebola Julien Harneis reported progress in some areas during a briefing in Geneva. Elsewhere, however, the number of cases continues to rise.

Olivier le Polain of the World Health Organization rejected claims that the epidemic has already reached a turning point. According to him, it is still too early to say with certainty that the peak has passed.
