Poland Fortifies Border After Drone Strikes

Poland is reinforcing its border crossings with Ukraine after Russian drone attacks near the frontier over the weekend, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Tuesday.

One Russian drone hit a passenger train near the Polish border on Sunday, while another struck a truck at a nearby gas station. Border guards temporarily suspended crossings and evacuated people from vehicles.

“Recent days show that Russia's actions threaten the security of all of Europe”, Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X, adding that infrastructure used by border guards was being reinforced.

Polish army engineers are building fortifications to protect checkpoints and other infrastructure, as well as observation and guard posts near crossings at Dorohusk, Medyka and Korczowa.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland had anticipated that Russia could attempt to disrupt or paralyze Ukrainian border crossings, with potential consequences for Poland.
