Messi’s Final Game for Argentina Is Set
Argentina captain and soccer icon Lionel Messi will play his final game for the national team on 6 October in a friendly against Benin in Buenos Aires.
Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia confirmed that the match will serve as an official farewell for the 39-year-old, who announced his international retirement on 31 August after more than two decades with the national team.
Messi will return specifically for the farewell match and will not feature in Argentina’s preceding friendlies against Bolivia on 30 September and Burkina Faso on 3 October.
All of Messi’s teammates from Argentina’s 2022 World Cup-winning squad, along with their families, have been invited to attend his final appearance at the Estadio Monumental.
Messi remains a major force at club level with Inter Miami, where he continues to rank among Major League Soccer’s leading players.
