Poland Finds Armed Russian Drone in Baltic Sea

Authorities have recovered an armed Russian military drone from the Baltic Sea near the coastal village of Rusinowo, close to Jaroslawiec.

The aircraft was located and recovered by the military on Monday. Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said initial examinations indicated that it was of Russian origin.

According to news agency PAP, Deputy Military Prosecutor Bartosz Okoniewski said investigators found that the drone was carrying a high-explosive fragmentation warhead equipped with a detonator. The warhead was separated from the aircraft and destroyed in a controlled explosion on Tuesday evening.

Preliminary findings indicate that the aircraft is a Gerbera-2 model used by the Russian military. Its fuselage has been taken away for further laboratory examination.

Prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into endangering life and health and are also investigating a possible unauthorized violation of the country’s border.

Earlier assessments suggested that the drone may have entered territorial waters from international waters. Authorities are continuing to investigate how it reached the area.
