Estonia Warns of a Mass Exodus of Mobilized Russians

The Estonian security council discussed scenarios for a possible general mobilization in the Russian Federation and its implications for the country's security. According to the ERR website, Prime Minister Kristen Michal confirmed that if Russia declares mobilization and the threat assessment changes as a result, the authorities are prepared to close the borders immediately.

He said the Russian economy is facing serious problems, and with monthly losses of 30,000 to 40,000 soldiers, Moscow will have to take further steps to continue the war. He added that EU and NATO countries must be fully prepared for this scenario.

Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized that a potential forced mobilization would sharply increase internal tensions in Russia. At the same time, he pointed out that the Schengen Area continues to issue hundreds of thousands of visas to Russian citizens, which he views as a significant security risk for all of Europe.

Tsahkna warned that fleeing mobilization does not automatically entitle one to international protection, and called on European partners to adopt a stricter visa policy toward the Russian Federation.
